A Walk Along Kyoto Imperial Palace

Before the Meiji Restoration明治維新 Meiji Ishin when the capital was moved to Tokyo 東京, Kyoto Imperial Palace京都御所Kyoutogoshowas home to the Japanese Emperor. Preserved by the Imperial Household Agency宮内庁 Kunaichou, visitors must apply for a visit in these Palace grounds. These grounds are enclosed in Kyoto Gyoen京都御苑, and a long stretch of a walk before visitors can reach the gates – those that will take you back when the Kyoto Imperial Palace held more than just coronation ceremonies.
