Food Tripping Down Dotonbori

While Dotonbori 道頓堀 in Namba, Osaka 難波, 大阪 is studded with billboards and bright night lights along a river that has witnessed life from the 1600’s Kabuki 歌舞伎 and Bunraku 文楽 theatres, there’s no better place for food enthusiasts to feast on Osaka’s regional cuisine than this street. After long shopping hours in Shinsaibashi-suji 心斎橋筋, Dotonbori welcomed us with the famous Glico runner ad, moving crab billboard of Kani Doraku かに道楽 restaurant and tons of dining places and stalls constantly frying Osaka-yaki 大阪焼き – Japanese pancakes お好み焼き okonomiyaki, octopus balls たこ焼き takoyaki, fish-shaped red bean-filled waffles たい焼き taiyaki, yakisoba 焼きそば. Sounds of teppanyaki 鉄板焼き and scents of bonito flakes 鰹節 katsuobushi atop plates and bowls, tempting passersby to take a bite one local flavor at a stall.
